Jim Obergefell

Jim Obergefell, CECH ’90

Jim Obergefell is an LGBTQ+ and civil rights activist, author, public speaker and the lead plaintiff in the landmark 2015 U.S. Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. He sued Ohio in 2013 for not recognizing his marriage to his late husband, John Arthur. Jim holds a degree in secondary education and German from UC. Jim also co-founded Equality Vines, the world’s first cause-based wine label, supporting equal rights. Jim serves on the Board of Directors of Family Equality and he is a Producer on the JustMarried Project.

Scott Knox

Scott Knox, JD, Med ’83, Law ’85

Scott Knox is the sole proprietor of Scott E. Knox Attorneys at Law, specializing in LGBTQ legal issues, estate planning and Social Security Disability/SSI benefits. He has successfully argued cases before the Ohio Supreme Court. Scott holds a Master’s degree from the UC College of Medicine and a law degree from the UC College of Law. He serves on the boards of Library Foundation of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, Ohio Lesbian Archives and the Holocaust and Humanity Center.
