LGBTQ Alumni Town Hall

Tuesday, July 28
6 - 7 p.m.

LGBTQ students on college campuses have historically faced challenges that are unique to their peers. Beyond questions of how to pay for school and how to get good grades, LGBTQ students have faced harassment from homophobic peers, social isolation from friends and family due to their identity, and even physical and sexual violence. These stressors can contribute to anxiety and depression, and although acceptance has trended upward, students have a fear of being their authentic selves on campus.

The UC Alumni Association is hosting a virtual town hall on Tuesday, July 28, and is open to the entire community. This event will give alumni an opportunity to meet a few of the people who support LGBTQ students, learn about the resources available to them, and find out how alumni and support such efforts. The panelist will be a cross-section of the university, including the LGBTQ Center, faculty and staff support, and administration.

Panelists include:

  • Valerio Ferme, PhD – Dean, College of Ars & Sciences
  • Juan Guarda, PhD – Dean of Students, Interim Director of the LGBTQ Center
  • Donnie McGovern – Director, Center for Pathways Advising and Student Success
  • Rachael Nolan, PhD – Assistant Professor, College of Medicine

This event is complimentary and virtual. Registrants will be provided credentials to join the virtual meeting.
