Fellow Bearcats,

While this is the middle of the year on most people’s calendars, July is typically when those of us on a college campus look back on the academic year we just concluded, and look ahead at the new year we’ve just begun.

Your UC Alumni Association has had an important and successful year. We have touched many alumni of all ages, locations, demographics, interests and disciplines, and we have seen and felt the excitement level rise as more Bearcats have become more engaged with their university and each other.

As an involved alumnus myself since graduating in 1986, I knew we had great energy in our alumni family. Yet, upon becoming the Alumni Association’s executive director about a year and a half ago, I didn’t fully realize the depth of their UC passion. In my travels, it’s truly been a joy to meet so many of you and learn together how we can leverage this immense pride for our common good.

Maximizing our connections is our primary goal for the new year. That means engaging even more of our alumni family, especially through increased membership in the UC Alumni Association. The commitment of our Sustaining and Life Members enables us to do our important work, and it also delivers an array of special membership benefits. And we’ll continue to strengthen those benefits, enhance our programs and services, and create more opportunities for alumni to connect in meaningful ways. If you’re already a Sustaining or Life Member, thank you … Be sure to leverage your membership fully, and encourage your UC friends to join and get more involved as well. If you’re not a Sustaining or Life Member, please consider joining.

The new year is also about enhancing the diversity in our programming, in the breadth of our engagement opportunities, in offering more connections in conjunction with UC’s colleges and constituent groups, and in reaching more alumni no matter where they live. And we want to keep building important partnerships in the community in order to further enrich the lives of those we serve.

Add it all up, and we’re striving to provide the very best alumni experience possible for the entire UC family in the Cincinnati area, across the country and around the world. Please let us know how we’re doing … Our door is always open!

Go Bearcats!

Myron L. Hughes
