Background Info
The Kacher-Bloom Memorial Scholarship was created to recognize two exceptional students, Margaret Kacher and Sheri An Bloom. Both women were devoted to the University of Cincinnati and served as student leaders and true ambassadors of the University. Their futures held enormous promise, with no limit to where their careers and lives would lead. In 1985 UC suffered the double-blow of losing both of these promising young women to untimely deaths. In order for the achievements and sprit of these young women to be remembered, the UC Young Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Council have endowed an annual scholarship. This scholarship will recognize a current, full-time student entering his/her senior year who exemplifies Sheri and Meg's qualities: excelling in academics, student activities, community service combined with a strong sense of loyalty and commitment to the University of Cincinnati. The scholarship will be a cash award for an amount not less than $500.00 (the amount to be determined by the committee each year), along with a plaque or memento acknowledging the award. A permanent plaque listing all winners will be maintained in the Alumni Center on Campus. Margaret "Meg" Kacher attended the University of Cincinnati from 1981 to 1985, graduating cum laud from the College of Business Administration. Named the outstanding senior in the College of Business Administration in 1985, Meg was also actively involved with numerous other student and college organizations. A member of the Student Alumni Council, she also served as president of the College of Business Tribunal, secretary of Phi Chi Theta women's business fraternity, Sargent-of-arms for Beta Gamma Sigma business honorary, president of Mortar Board, a member of the Cincinnatus Honor Society and First attendant of U.C's 1983 Homecoming Court. She was involved with resident life for several years, first as a Resident Advisor, and later as the Head Resident Advisor for Siddall Hall. Upon graduation Meg joined Proctor & Gamble as an Assistant Brand Manager. Beyond her busy work schedule, she made time for the people around her. Be it her friends, family, residents, classmates, professors, she always seemed to be there when someone or something needed her attention. A friend of Meg's really did her justice by saying, "Above all, Meg was a caring and thoughtful individual. In the midst of her busy schedule, she always had time for her friends. Meg was motivated as well as a motivator for many people. She was a fine person who was well respected and admired by her classmates, friends and faculty. Meg will be deeply missed and never forgotten." Sheri An Bloom was a graduating senior, majoring in Speech Pathology and Audiology and was to have received a Certificate of Business Administration in 1985. Having maintained a 3.84 GPA, Sheri had plans to pursue a master's degree in speech and hearing and was awarded a fully funded fellowship to pursue that dream. A remarkable young woman with a great amount of leadership potential, Sheri was very active while a student at the University of Cincinnati. She continually demonstrated her dedication to the campus, the community and her friends. She was a member of Mortar Board, vice president of Omicron Delta Kappa, and was named to Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Additionally, she served as secretary for CWEST, was a member of the Cincinnatus Society, Student Alumni Council, Election Board and served as Fall Orientation Chairman for Orientation Board. On top of all this she found time to serve as the Bearcat Mascot. Her commitment to her sorority, Sigma Delta Tau, was exceptional. Her chapter offices included Panhellenic delegate, Vice President and pledge chairman. Within the Epsilon Chapter she received numerous awards and was the national recipient of the Sigma Delta Tau Foundation National Council Grant in 1983 and the Dora Bloom Turtletaub Grant in 1984. In 1985 Sheri was posthumously named Sigma Delta Tau's Outstanding Senior.
